The Summer of Comedies: Theater Trip Looks at the Overcrowded Summer
Everyone is talking about how 2011 has the more sequels in it than any year ever. They’re looking at the big boys of the summer and going, “How can any of them survive?” Well I think it’s time for someone to talk about the little (er) guys. The comedies. Because not only is the summer filled with sequels, prequels, and other huge tentpoles, it’s also filled with a huge number of comedies all looking for success. Just look at this list:
- Bridesmaids (May 13)
- The Hangover Part II (May 26)
- Bad Teacher (June 17)
- Larry Crowne (July 1)
- Horrible Bosses (July 8)
- The Zookeeper (July 8)
- Friends with Benefits (July 22)
- Crazy, Stupid, Love. (July 29)
- The Change-Up (August 5)
- The Sitter (August 5)
- 30 Minutes or Less (August 12)
As you can see, the summer got pretty packed and many of these movies are gonna eat each other alive. After the jump I’ll give my thoughts on these films based on the people involved, marketing, and for some based on their scripts.
